Over the past few years, vape pods have had a resurgence, with hundreds of new options released in the past year alone. Despite the influx of new devices, the Uwell Caliburn has remained the most talked about pod vape device despite being out for a while.
The Caliburn is still in high demand because of its great build quality and its flavour delivery. Here’s everything you need to know about the Uwell Caliburn and if it is a good buy for you.
Design and Build Quality
One of the reasons the Uwell Caliburn has held up so well to the test of time is its sturdy quality. Its design has also kept it in people’s mouths.
The Caliburn measures 110 by 21 by 12mm. It’s a tall and slim device that makes it comfortable to hold while vaping. It almost feels natural in your hand. The device also fits in a pocket shirt and pant pockets without bulging.
The pod has “CALIBURN” printed on the front of the device and “UWELL” printed on the back. Each corner has two raised lines on each corner of the Caliburn that run from the bottom to the top.
Besides the aesthetics, the Caliburn has a sturdy and durable aluminium alloy casing that also makes it an ultra-light device. The finish on the device is smooth and will handle a decent amount of abuse. The paint job is perfect and doesn't scratch or rub off easily, so you get to keep an appealing device for a longer time.
The vape pod has a firing button. But you can also skip that and just draw from the mouthpiece. The firing button is well made and clicky. It takes some pressure to activate the button, which prevents accidental firing while in the pocket.
Under the fire button is an LED indicator. It lights green, blue, or red, depending on the battery level. The LED will also light up every time you press the fire button or take a draw.
The sides of the pod are cut out, and a window is inserted to help you check the e-juice level without removing it. The window is clear. Seeing the level is easy.
Pod
The pod on the Caliburn holds 2ml of the e-juice. The packaging also comes with two identical 1.4-ohm coils in the packaging. The pods are replaceable, which means the coils are not changeable. Once the pod is used up or burned up, you can replace the entire pod.
Replacing the entire pod is easier and makes the Uwell Caliburn appealing to relatively new vapers who are jittery about dealing with the more intricate process of trying to change the coil.
You should also know that you can use the Caliburn Koko pods with the Caliburn if you want a slightly different experience. The Koko pods are rated 1.2ohms and have a red base.
The airflow for the device is fed into the pod through small airflow holes on the sides of the pod. The mouthpiece on the pod slopes on both sides and is super comfortable to vape.
Battery and Charging
The Caliburn has a 520mAh battery that delivers more than enough vaping time when fully charged. The output of the device is about 11W. It uses very little battery for each draw. The device should give you about 3 refills per charge.
There’s an LED under the power button that keeps you in the loop on how much charge you have left. When the LED is:
- Green: 100-60%
- Blue: 60-30%
- Red: under 30%
You can press the fire button once to check the battery level or draw when using puff activation, which will also light up the LED.
Charging the pod is quick through micro-USB charging. It takes about 45 minutes from a dead battery to full charge. The Uwell Caliburn also has a pass-through feature that allows you to vape while the device is charging.
PerformanceÂ
The Caliburn wouldn't be the dominant force it is today without putting out a stunning performance. It is a solid vape with a loose but not airy MTL draw. It comes with the standard 1.4ohm pods with a good nice throat hit that works best with the 50mg nic salt.
The vapour released from the device is warm and enjoyable. Flavour extraction is top-notch and confirms all the hype surrounding the device. For an 11W device, vapour production is phenomenal.
The flavour and vapour production will decline as the battery dies because the Caliburn is not a constant output device, so this is expected. Once the battery is below 30%, the draw is much weaker. You can prevent this by ensuring the battery is at least 50% capacity.
The Caliburn holds up well to continuous use. When filled correctly, it doesn’t have leaks and doesn’t have any issues. It can handle most PG/VG rations but works best with 50/50 blends. It’s ideal for both long and short draws and also handles chain vaping smoothly without any complications. Â
