When is the best time to clean the tank?
You can’t always strip down the tank and clean it. The trick to unlocking the benefits of a clean vaping tank lies in choosing when it’s time to give the tank a scrub.
The flavour of your vape is one of the most reliable ways to tell when it’s time to clean up the tank. The vape might start tasting burnt or the flavours are muted. If you notice any of these signs, then it’s time to bring in the cleaning crew.
The tank is not the only part to blame for a change in flavour. It could be the wick that is worn out or the vape coil is too dirty. If you recently cleaned the tank and you still have these signs, you might need to check on the state of the coil and the wick.
How to clean a Vape tank
Take the tank apart
Taking apart your tank means taking almost the entire mod apart. In most mods, to get to the tank, you need to go through a few parts. In others, accessing the mod is much easier. It all depends on the design of the mod.
However, it’s a good idea to strip all the parts since some of them like the coil could also use some cleaning.
If you’re doing this for the first time, it’s best to consult your manual. In most cases, the process is the same and involves:
- Removing the atomiser from the mod.
- Pulling out the drip tip from the top cap.
- Unscrewing the top cap from the chamber ( this might be glass or plastic depending on the mod).
- Set aside the chamber carefully.
- Remove the vape cotton and the coil.
With everything apart, you can easily clean the individual parts easily.
Check the coil and wick
As mentioned earlier, the tank is not the only part to blame for muted or burnt flavour. It could be the coil or the wick. Before scrubbing the tank, check the coil and the wick to rule out any issues with them.

If either of the parts are used up, you have no choice but to replace them. Sometimes, grime builds up on the coil. You can scrub it clean. This will help you improve flavour.
Soak the parts
Get a bowl with some lukewarm water and place the components of the parts in to soak. This helps to break down the build-up and makes it easier to scrub the gunk. For the best results, you can also use pure vinegar or ethanol just make sure you don’t use isopropyl alcohol.
After a few minutes of soaking, take the parts out and rinse them under running water. Pick a shallow bowl with just enough water to submerge them. Some vapers prefer to leave the parts in the water overnight. But, even a few minutes should work just fine.
Cleaning
Using a small brush, scrub the connectors and the inside of the tank. Don’t use too much pressure. All the gunk will fall off when you start scrubbing. After scrubbing thoroughly, rinse the parts to wash away any clinging debris.
Drying and reassembly
You can’t reassemble the parts immediately after cleaning. You need to give them some time to air dry. Place the parts separately in an open space and let them dry for up to 30 minutes.
You can place them on a paper towel or regular towel which will help absorb any excess water and speed up the drying process.
Some vapers prefer to dry the tank parts using an air dryer because it’s faster. However, rubber parts like the O-rings become brittle over time because of the hot dry air.
Once the parts are completely dry, you can put the tank back together. Fill the tank up with some e-liquid and you’re ready to continue vaping.
If you’re not familiar with your device, you might want to record the disassembly so you can refer to it when putting everything back together. It will also help to guide you on what part goes where.
TIP: When cleaning the cape tank, make sure that you don’t clean the parts anywhere near the batteries. You don’t want any water, soap or alcohol dripping on the batteries or the Mod itself.
Wrapping it up!
Cleaning a vape tank is not as complicated as it sounds. It’s a simple process that requires simple tools and a few minutes of your time. Given how it impacts your vaping experience, it’s safe to say the time you spend cleaning your vape tank and the coil is time well spent.
